Arctic Silicon Devices AS (ASD) (now Hittite Norway) is a ultra-low power semiconductor company based in Trondheim that develops and markets analog-centric semiconductor chips. ASD utililzes a highly effective proprietary tool and its patented technology platform in developing new product families. The company focuses on market segments where high performance and ultra-low power consumption are important competitive parameters. ASD was established in 2007 by an internationally acknowledged technology team with experience from both the Nordic and the international semiconductor industry. The company was sold to Boston based Hittite Microwave Inc. in January 2011.
Key developments during our ownership:
- Strengthened both the board of directors and the ASD´s sales team with UK based industry veterans.
- Developed and brought to market a portfolio of 16 different ADC chips within with market leading specifications on-time and on-budget.
- Expanded and restructured ASD’s market focus, business model, and go-to-market strategy.
- Secured two alternative strategic solutions for ASD handling a very difficult semiconductor market with dramatic lack of sales for ASD; a trade sale to Hittite Microwave Inc. or alternatively restructuring and repositioning of ASD with a new world-class semiconductor CEO and strategic partners.
Sold to Hittite Microwave Corporation INC (NASDAQ: HITT) in January 2011.
